The Chipblock Cross Pendant | DESIGN STORY

Crosses filled with Utmost Meaning was the cry of the Designer's heart.

I don't know about you... but crosses really aren't 'my thing'.

Which is ironic, because the first thing people would assume when I tell them that I am a Christian jewellery designer is that my collection would mainly be made up of different styles of crosses, if not be comprised ONLY of crosses, crucifixes, and maybe the odd Christian fish or dove symbol.

I never set out to deliberately to design crosses in my collection, I am more led by the heart of the Father in my designing, and if the Bible verse I was designing from lent itself to a cross, then a cross it was.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s where people, including those in the entertainment industry, wore crosses more for decoration rather than a meaningful choice, I was determined to design a cross that someone would NOT choose to wear it unless they meant it.

It had to be rich in meaning, and lead someone richly into surrender if they were to choose this piece.

In my Bible reading one day I came across this verse from Isaiah 51:1:

"Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn...".

Isaiah 51 is an utterly amazing promise of Zion to us and not often preached about but utterly profound, I would encourage everyone to read it.

To me this verse took on a life of its own. I was already working on a design from 1 Peter 2:4-5 about Living Stones, where I was very led to make a cross-shaped pebble to represent Jesus, and us, as Living Stones, fashioned after Christ.

So when it came to designing this piece it was a no-brainer, like the next piece to a jigsaw puzzle.

My need to have "heart of the Father" represented across all my designs was answered.

The centre piece, a smaller cross (us) enveloped and embraced by a larger cross (the Father) took shape, and a simple cubic zironia of purity set into the middle completed the piece.

We are indeed cut out and hewn out of the Rock that is "Higher than I" (Psalms 61:2), a living stone (I Peter 2:4-5), held together by Christ in the Body through love (Ephesians 4:16).

And we fashion ourselves after Christ as imitators (1 Thess 1:6) as we conform to His likeness (Romans 8:29).

Like Father, like Son. Like Father, like Daughter, hence the name The Chip(of the old)block Cross.

Blessings to you as you discover in the next little while the depths of His Love for you :) . x Ros
